When you have been in the shipping containers business for quite some time, you might recognize the terms of certain conditions of a shipping container. The most common qualities searched in a container are Cargo Worthy (CW) and Wind & Watertight (WWT).  Acknowledging the term used when considering buying or renting a container is a good place to start. There are many factors within each category that can affect the container’s usefulness. While your investigation should never end on the category, it’s best to inspect the shipping container before buying or hiring them.

Here are the brief differences between the two terms:

Cargo Worthy (CW)

Shortly, a Cargo Worthy (CW) container means that the storage container is in an appropriate condition to be used for international cargo shipping. It also means that the container meets all the standards set in its original specification, some might have a valid CSC plate. A valid CSC plate signifies a safety approval of the container which is a must have when hiring a used container under this category.

In external view, a cargo worthy container should have minimum dents, scratching, and minor rust. Floor, wall, and roof may have a small number of prior repairs.

Wind & Watertight (WWT)

Wind watertight containers are often used as storage containers. The wind & watertight term means that none of the two can enter the container. The container that falls under this category means that they have gone through some damage and is not capable of shipping goods overseas. The WWT containers do not meet the requirements as CW class as they do not have a valid CSC plate.

They normally cost less than the CW container type but are still able to serve a number of good years as a solid storage.
